Labor Day is more than just a long weekend, lawn barbecues, and retail sales - its true meaning is often overlooked. Today, at Sabai, we want to recognize and celebrate the true meaning of Labor Day and our own workers who make what we do possible.
Quick Background
The Holiday originated in the late 19th century, when labor unions were fighting for better working conditions and shorter hours, and the first Labor Day holiday was celebrated in New York City on September 5, 1882, after Peter J. McGuire, a labor union leader, proposed a national holiday. Over time, it spread to different states and in 1894, it was declared a federal holiday by President Grover Cleveland.
So, in addition to its end-of-summer connotations, Labor Day is a time to reflect on the importance of American manufacturing, sustainability, ethical labor practices, and the celebration of skilled craftsmanship. These are the core values that drive Sabai, and we are proud to celebrate them on Labor Day.
