Hosting the Ultimate Dinner Party this Autumn

Nov 27, 2023 Carina Sun

It's October, which means until January 2, it's technically the Holiday Season (AKA the Best Time of the Year). It's the perfect time to host memorable dinner parties with wine, charcuterie boards, and pumpkin-scented candles. In this post, we'll walk you through the essential furniture and decor elements for an unforgettably-autumn dinner party.

1. Selecting the Perfect Dining Table

The heart of any dinner party is the dining table, and for a fall-themed soirée, you'll want something that exudes warmth and character, and can fit any number of guests.

Rustic Harvest Tables: A farmhouse-style table with natural wood tones complements the autumnal palette beautifully. Its earthy charm provides a perfect backdrop for your fall-themed decor.

Modular Tables: For flexibility in guest numbers, opt for a modular table. These can allow you to accommodate more guests without sacrificing style or comfort, and can be a great investment as a long-lasting, high-quality staple piece. (Although it's more of a coffee table, check out our modular Milestone Table!)

2. Setting the Scene with Fall-inspired Decor

If you have ever watched Gilmore Girls, you will know the magical allure of pumpkins, multicolored leaves, and signs that read "Autumn Blessings". Bring these same decorations to your dining space with these eements:

Warm Candlelight: Candles can play a huge role in creating a fall-themed setting, both with their warm, inviting glow, and the scent of pumpkin spice in the air. Some of our personal favorite scents are "Maple Leaves", "Spiced Pumpkin", and "The Lingering Scent of Your Neighbor's Barbecue."

Textured Table Linens: Ditch the boring white tablecloths and consider using table runners or placemats in earthy tones or rich, deep hues. Linens with natural textures like burlap or linen enhance the fall feel.

3. Lighting and Music

String Lights or Lanterns: Especially if you live in an apartment, string lights or paper lanterns can completely revamp a smaller space, making it seem more inviting, and creating a cozy, intimate atmosphere.

Curated Playlist: Put on some vinyls or your favorite Spotify fall-themed playlist. A little bit of background music is key to creating the setting. Some of my personal favorite fall artists are Phoebe Bridgers, Taylor Swift, and Noah Kahan. Of course, some light jazz is always a go-to as well.

With the right furniture and decor elements, you can transform your space, whether its a house, apartment, loft, or anything else, into the ultimate fall-inspired dinner party haven. Embrace the spirit of fall, and watch as your guests revel in the magic of the season (and of your amazing dinner party). Cheers to a wonderful evening filled with laughter, good food, and cherished memories!
