Fillings

Cocolok

Cocolok

Cocolok is a high-performance upholstery material made from natural coconut fibers bonded with natural latex. It delivers firm, breathable support, is biodegradable and free of harmful chemicals, and offers an alternative to synthetic foams. The coconut fiber is a food-industry byproduct, and producing Cocolok generates up to 79% less CO₂ than polyurethane foam. The material is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified.

Natural Latex

Natural Latex

Our latex is made from sustainably harvested rubber tree sap, a renewable carbon sequestering resource, that is free from harmful chemicals while being naturally resistant to mold and dust mites. It provides superior comfort and durability while being fully biodegradable. The material is OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified, meets Global Organic Latex Standard 3.0 and has a Fair for Life certificate, the most stringent Fair Trade certification.

High Resiliency Foam

High Resiliency Foam

Our high-resiliency foam is engineered to outlast conventional cushions—extending product life and reducing waste—while meeting strict environmental and safety standards. It’s low-VOC and made without added flame retardants, formaldehyde, phthalates, or ozone-depleting substances. The foam is CertiPUR-US® certified, which means its content, emissions, and durability are verified by independent, accredited laboratories.

Polyester Fiber

Polyester Fiber

We use two types of polyester fibers in our back pillows and seat cushions. First is a Recycled Polyester in blown fiber and sheet form, giving new life to post-consumer waste such as plastic bottles to textiles. This choice diverts waste from landfills while preserving the soft, supportive feel and long-lasting performance of our pieces. The second type is a gel based fiber called Trillium, which is a cruelty-free, high-performance alternative to traditional down. Made from polyester, it mimics the loft and softness of natural down but is hypoallergenic and made from recycled materials, ensuring both comfort and sustainability.

Woods

FSC® Certified Hard Wood

FSC® Certified Hard Wood

We source our wood from responsibly managed forests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®). This ensures that the wood used in our furniture comes from forests that are protected for future generations, promoting biodiversity and ethical forestry practices. Our furniture legs and Bacana collection are made from FSC® certified Maple harvested in the US.

Carbon Smart Wood™

Carbon Smart Wood™

Carbon Smart Wood™ is salvaged, fresh-cut timber rescued from the waste stream—material that would otherwise be chipped, landfilled, or incinerated. Sourced from responsibly recovered trees across the American Midwest, it’s sawn, kiln-dried, and graded to furniture quality, turning local by-product into low-carbon, high-character lumber. We use Carbon Smart™ Cherry and Oak on our tables.

FSC® Certified Plywood

FSC® Certified Plywood

Our upholstered frames are built from FSC® certified plywood for strength and stability, sourced from responsibly managed forests. The panels are EPA TSCA Title VI certified and meet CARB Phase 2 limits for formaldehyde emissions, delivering low-emitting, indoor-air-friendly construction. Multi-ply cross-lamination resists warping, provides excellent hardware-holding power, and stands up to years of daily use—so your furniture lasts longer and wastes less.

Finishes

Low VOC Water Based Finish

Low VOC Water Based Finish

Our furniture legs and the Bacana collection are finished with a low-VOC, water-based acrylic finish. It delivers a clean, durable sheen with minimal solvent emissions, low odor, and easy water clean-up—supporting healthier indoor air without sacrificing performance.

Rubio Monocoat

Rubio Monocoat

Our tables are finished with Rubio Monocoat—a 0% VOC, plant-based natural oil/wax finish that’s Greenguard Gold–certified for low emissions. It enhances the wood’s feel, supports healthier indoor air, and can be spot-repaired without stripping, extending the product’s life and reducing waste.

Our Material Standards

Safe Textiles

Our textiles have no added flame retardants and no chemical stain-resistant coatings—keeping them PFAS- and BPA-free for cleaner indoor and outdoor environments. Just as important, we avoid hybrid blends of natural and synthetic fibers. By choosing single-fiber constructions where possible, we make it easier to recycle, reuse, or responsibly compost at end of life, reducing contamination and waste.

Our Wood

Wherever possible, we source FSC®-certified wood from responsibly managed U.S. forests. FSC certification verifies sustainable harvesting and chain-of-custody practices; choosing domestic supply reduces transport emissions, supports regional forestry, and helps protect biodiversity and water resources—all while delivering strong, stable material for long-lasting furniture.

Domestic Production & Sourcing

Our manufacturing partners are U.S.-based, and we prioritize local sourcing whenever possible. For select specialty materials, we partner with international innovators—because meaningful sustainability advances are a global effort and sometimes the best, most responsible options come from abroad.

Different Options for Different Needs

Our goal is to do the legwork for you, to consider the environmental and health implications of each material. However, we understand that different individuals and households have different priorities - whether that’s affordability, natural materials, or clean ability - and aim to offer a variety of options that speak to this spectrum of needs.
