5 Low-Waste Ideas to Refresh Your Home (5/12/2022)

From the day you move in, your home becomes a blank canvas that will eventually take on your tastes and aesthetics. But sometimes a change or some extra organization is needed. Whether you’re spring cleaning or you feel like you need to refresh your space, here are 5 low-waste ideas to spruce up your home!

1. Bring out your cleaning supplies.

One way to refresh your space is by wiping down surfaces and dusting off your belongings. This will instantly lift the look of a room and you'll feel great after a good clean. Check out Blueland, Grove Collaborative, and Thrive Market for sustainable cleaning products!

2. (Responsibly) declutter your space.

The KonMari method is a cleaning approach that has become popular with its signature quote “Does this spark joy?” Created by Marie Kondo, a Japanese cleaning consultant, this method has helped people live a more minimal lifestyle. Even if being a minimalist isn’t your thing, it doesn't hurt to take a look at your belongings and declutter the items that no longer serve you.

Afterwards, instead of throwing away your unwanted items, try donating to secondhand shops, having closet swaps or yard sales, and sending the rest to companies that will reuse and repurpose your things. Some organizations include Freecycle, Buy Nothing, Retold Recycling, Wearable Collections (NYC only), and Helpsy (Northeast US).

3. Rearrange your belongings for a mini makeover.

Sometimes all you need to change up your home is your existing furniture. By playing around with the layout of your space, you can create a new look without purchasing anything new.

4. Add some greenery to your home.

Plants are a great addition to any home. Not only can they improve the air quality indoors, they're also helpful for your mental health. Whether you go small or big with your plants, they'll look good in any area of your home. 5. Try out some accent decor.

Sometimes the little details make a big difference. Framing some prints, adding your current reads to a coffee table, or bringing in a rug will instantly add character and coziness to a room. Other options include throw blankets or some accent pillows, like our Square Pillow and Lumbar Pillow.
