Today, we'll be taking a peek at Avalon's home! Avalon is our Customer Service Specialist and we'll be learning about her personal design style and more!
Where are you located?
Whitehall, PA!
How would you describe your interior style?
I would say eclectic and funky. Definitely nerdy gamer fused with artsy and a hint of pet toy decor.
What tends to catch your eye when decorating?
I love knick knacks and I do like to fill up the space. And colors! Love good pops of color and how they contrast.
What types of color palettes do you like?
Blues, pinks and greens are my favorite. Always a fan of greyscale too.
What are some key elements that you wanted to incorporate into your home?
Coziness! I always want my home to feel cozy and warm and comfy. That and just a nice inspirational space to feel creative in. I’m a homebody, I work remotely, and I’m also a creative type, so being able to focus and enjoy the space is important.
Would you describe yourself as a maximalist or minimalist (or in between)?
Somewhere in between.
How do you feel about prints and patterns?
I can be picky about them but when I like 'em, I love 'em!
What kind of home do you live in (house, apartment, condo, etc.)?
House.
Do you have a larger or smaller space? How do you think that affects the way you decorate your space?
I would say smaller rooms but a lot of them. It's a large space overall. I wouldn’t say it affects the way I decorate too much, though if I had more space, I’d probably have more furniture pieces.
Do you feel like your home reflects you (and/or your partner’s) personality?
Yes 100%. I think it’s warm, inviting, fun and entertaining. Won’t speak for myself but my partner is definitely those things. :)
How does your home align with your lifestyle?
Well, we like to hang out at home, and boy is there a lot to do here. So I would say it aligns very well! We have all of our favorite hobbies available to us at any time and are always entertained.
What was the most easy and challenging part about decorating your space?
Hmm…easiest part was getting all the fun things to decorate with. Hardest part was probably finding space for all the random things we’ve collected.
Explain a bit about which Sabai couch you got and how you styled it!
We’ve got the Essential Sofa in Dusty Rose with Dark Brown Wood Legs! We had a couple of extra throw pillows so we added those, and it’s got a nice metal sculpture on the wall above it which looks cool!
Your couch is one of our Open Box Returns from our Sabai Revive program. Could you explain what the process was like for you?
Absolutely! It was neat because not only did I get to experience the process from a customer’s point of view, but it was very early on in my time with Sabai, so I was learning the process along the way as well!
Our Open Box program allows us to process returns in a sustainable and efficient way, standing up to one of our core missions. And of course living up to our name, making it as easygoing as we can for returning and new customers. I would definitely say I experienced that firsthand when receiving my sofa!
Once I saw that one of our customers wanted to return a Dusty Rose sofa, the one I had my eye on, I was sold! We asked them a few questions which we ask all returning customers, and once they got their boxes packed up, we provided them with labels to send them over to me. I worked with them on a good time for FedEx to come pick up the boxes, and I was able to track the sofa straight to my house, which didn’t take long to get here.
Not only was I able to get my piece faster than if it were to be sent back to our factory and then shipped to me, but by doing this internal open box process, we also save a ton on emissions. And as all pieces are made to order, reselling returns keeps them out of landfills which is what you might call, a win-win situation! :)
What’s your favorite thing to do on your Sabai couch?
I love to sit and snuggle my dog and cat who are obsessed with the sofa, and my partner likes to make music on it! I actually set it up as a surprise while he was at work one day, and thought, “he’s going to find this new space inspirational I bet.” He came home and immediately starting pressing his beep-bop machines (synthesizers?) and making some tunes!
What do you like the most about your Sabai couch?
First and foremost, it's comfy. The velvet is also soooooo soft. I also think it adds a lot to the room and is a piece that your gravitate towards because it catches your eye.
You also have the Essential Chair in Recycled Velvet Indigo. Would you mind sharing why you chose that color and what you like about it?
I went with Indigo Velvet because I love blue in general. My partner and I are also huge fans of pink and blues together, so we thought it’d go nicely with our sofa (though for now it’s in a separate room ha). In addition, we actually got this chair as part of another Open Box Return! So we were able to get the color we want and give it a new home.
What’s your favorite place in your home?
My craft room hehe.
What’s one sustainable tip that you have for decorating your space?
If you’re crafty like me, you probably have a bucketload of random things saved for a “project one day”. I would say, open that bucket, and use it to decorate! It’s always interesting what you can repurpose and make new from something old!
What does your home mean to you?
Love honestly. Sounds cheesy, but it’s true. There’s a lot of love in my home, and I’m extremely grateful and lucky to have what I have!
